Originally designed for the armed forces, the NATO strap, or NATO strap in English, was created in 1973 following an urgent request from the British Ministry of Defense for a strap that was both robust and waterproof. Since the straps of this era were mostly made of leather, their limitations quickly became apparent due to the natural sensitivity of leather to water. The NATO strap became the essential versatile and timeless strap.
