NavAir - plane wreck in Iceland
The epic plane wreck on the black beach in southern Iceland
In 1973, a U.S. Navy DC aircraft crashed on the black beach of Sólheimasandur, on Iceland's south coast. Despite running out of fuel, the plane's passengers and crew were fortunate to survive. An investigation revealed that the pilot had simply loaded the wrong tank. The remains of the plane can still be seen on the sand today, a testament to the power of human perseverance.
Inspired by this wreck, a watch has been designed to bring some of the aircraft's features to life. It serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, we have the strength to rise above and create something beautiful.
